Traditional Christmas Trees

Traditional Christmas Tree
with Pinecones
Traditional Christmas trees were originally evergreen coniferous trees. Cut fresh by the home owner and brought into the house, these live trees were decorated with candles and colorful ornaments. Today's Christmas trees carry on the same tradition, except hazardous candles have been replaced with light strings, and artificial Christmas trees are often used in place of live trees.
Traditional Christmas trees are green, and tree families vary depending on location. People are often attracted to trees similar to those they grew up with, so someone from the Eastern US may be more interested in the Fraser Fir than someone from Utah or Colorado, who grew up admiring the Blue Spruce. Both trees are unique, with the Fraser Fir boasting a full body and sparse at the top and base, and the Blue Spruce extremely dense throughout. Traditional trees are full, lush, and well lit, and often include pinecones or berries.
Decorate traditional Christmas trees in styles that include anything from Victorian and elegant to country craft. Carry on family traditions when decorating, saving ornaments from family members and vacations, or start a new tradition this year.
